Travel Laguna: The Parasite Collection Center in UPLB (PCC)

This post is not for the squirmish, I tell ya. After the trip to the Museum of the National History (MNH) we went to the The Parasite Collection Center before heading to the Anatomy Museum.

Ever wondered how our pets die due to the cause of some parasites? Well, here is the place where you will see what these culprits look like:

The Parasite Collection Center is the place for storage for all gathered parasites from the research studies of College of Veterinary Medicine in UPLB.

 They have a wide collection of practically all kind of known parasites:

 This collection has been around for years, some are back in 1989.

When asked what is the most "photographed" section of the PCC, the Kuya said:

 But what I liked the most about PCC is they actually showed how the parasite attacks an animal part. For example, here is a stomach part of a pig perforated by a stomach worm.

 This is the actual heart of a German Shepherd where those little string-like things hanging out are actually called the heart worms.

 The next one is the aorta of a water buffalo infected with an aortic worm (

 This is also a part of the aorta with parasites attacking them:

 They house a wide variety of worms, all kinds, name it!

 This Kuya has been around since the late 80s and he said he's actually the one who washed the animal part before the display. At first he cannot eat and lost his appetite, but has gotten used to it.

 Vet Med students create projects for the display such as these:

The center accepts donations for the maintenance and improvement of the collection.
