Beaches and Soundtracks

While majority of my friends are busy planning beach trips this summer, I am enjoying my first summer in my personal Sabbatical and that means this summer it’s going to be all about: My Summer Job, Old and New Friends, Books and *drum roll please* Writing.

Just because I can’t be on the beach this summer, it doesn’t mean I can’t take (at least) my spirit there so I put on my iPod and reminisce the best summers that I’ve had for the past recent years.

Canyon Cove Beach Resort, in Batangas with my high school friends, BMS+Blacksheep.
Beach Song: Chris Brown’s With You

I need you, boo, I gotta see you, boo
And the hearts all over the world tonight
Said the hearts all over the world tonight

Canyon Cove, by day
Canyon Cove, by early evening

I think I am the only one who’s aware that this song by Chris Brown is blaring several times a day all over the resort.

This is actually the best beach trip that my high school super friends and I had because it’s all our first time in this awesome resort and got a really great deal thanks to Joy and it’s the first time that Ellis (then based in Japan) and Erna (based in Dubai) came home at the same time.

Boracay with Family and Relatives
Beach Song: Chris Brown’s Forever

It's like I waited my whole life for this one night
It's gon' be me, you and the dance floor
'Cause we only got one night
Double your pleasure, double your fun
And dance forever-ever-ever
Forever-ever-ever Forever-ever-ever Forever

I heard this song at several bars while in Boracay and this is the song that’s playing during the peak of us partying at a club, getting drunk and crazy,  enjoying a mala-Coyote ugly dance performance by several expats who’s there for a weekend of R&R as well. And that’s the only beach that I’ve been to, (so far) that made me really not want to go back home to Manila. (I didn’t get this teary eyed feeling when I went to other beaches, not even El Nido in Palawan).

White Beach, Puerto Galera with friends from work.
Beach Song: No Doubt’s Underneath it all

You know some real bad tricks, And you need some discipline
But, lately you've been trying real hard, And giving me your best
And, you give me the most gorgeous sleep That I've ever had
And when it's really bad, I guess it's not that bad

My bff at work and I are sooo into 50 first dates movie by Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore (up until now, it’s our number one favorite summer movie of all time) and I remember sitting by the beach, listening to my iPod playing that song with an ice cold beer on one hand at 12 noon. It’s my first time to go to White Beach with my friends from work (because before I used to go there with my family and relatives) and we had a wickedly good time. What happened in Galera stays in Galera.

Not really feeling beach-y this summer (I fell in love with this Climate Change in elbi where it’s sunny in the morning, rainy in the afternoon then cold at night) but I’m up for a new adventure.

Who’s with me?
