The Hardworking Make Up Brushes

This year, I did the make up of one of the members of a wedding entourage and two looks for graduate school graduation of my friend. Last weekend, I was able to get my first ever paid make up gig out of a referral. I will write about that maybe some other time this week, but while I was cleaning my brushes, I decided to write about my most hard working make up brushes that I tend to use most of the time.

After I cleaned some of my make up brushes, in preparation for my first make up gig.

You can't lug these may make up brushes all the time and just because you have this many, you will not really use it on one face on one session alone. 

Here are my most used brush, when doing someone else's make up, in no particular order:

H&M Make up haul: Eye shadows, Bronzer and Brush

I was on a make up roll last year and got into eye shadow obsession. But this year, I decided to go neutral colors and less make up since... hello, I'm entering my 30s.

Which is funny because in college, I wore smoky eyes and my classmates were like "San ang party?"(Where's the party?) and last year I enjoyed blending that I look sick or under the weather when I am not wearing eye shadow at all.

Anyway, I've been searching for an eye shadow make up palette in family of browns (earth colors) because they seemed more natural. Then one night while walking in Tsim Sha Tsui in Hong Kong, I saw this at H&M:

I did not know that H&M makes make up, but when I saw them, I could not help but get them since I think they are cheaper compared to the local brands I've been recently eyeing on. The make up (bronzer and eye shadows) costs 49.90 HKD each. I did the math and it costs less than Php300. I was planning to just get one eye shadow palette, but I know that I will not be able to sleep, so I bought the smoky one at another H&M branch in Hong Kong on a different day.

The eye shadows are easy to blend. I used the smoky palette on this one because its a little hard for me to get some color in the nudes. They are good for everyday make up but tends to lighten at the end of the day.

The palettes are already used when I took this pic. I wasn't planning on blogging about them, then I decided to just do it.

Next is the Bronzing Powder

 I love this! Although, I am still learning how to blend these three. I think I am the only morena I know who loves bronzers. 

If you're a long time reader of this blog, I mentioned before I fell in love with the make up brushes first before the make up artistry it self. I couldn't help but buy a make up brush from H&M.

This one is called BB cream brush (69.90 HKD), but I do not exactly know how it can apply a BB cream. All I know is when you are using cream based make up/foundation, better to use a foundation brush instead because of it's bristles. 

H&M's BB Cream brush has a slightly angled brush that I use for contouring. I love the bristles and it reminds me so much of my favorite make up brushes from The Body Shop.

Anyway, it's been more than a month since we got back from Hong Kong and H&M recently opened its first store in the Philippines. I haven't had the time nor opportunity to check their store in SM Megamall. I wonder if they also carry this make up line because so far, I haven't seen them featured in blogs.

Review: Revlon Foundation Brush

Remember my strange love affair with make up brushes?

This is the Revlon brush that I waited long enough to blog about. I got this online at Target again, although I was not really looking to replace my trusty Marionnaud foundation brush that I got early this year.

I love that it's very light weight and red in color.

I have thing for bristles, as you can see. 

When this photo was taken, I haven't used this yet. But last Sunday, I was able to use this brand new Revlon foundation brush, because I left my trusty Marionnaud brush at the office for my emergency make up kit. I was asked to do the make up of a debutant (my friend's sister) and I was more than happy to do it! Too bad, I totally forgot to take photos of the before and after, because everyone got busy and I was surrounded by kids (I'm talking about  kids aged 4, 7, 10, and 14 years old ) while putting on make up.

Now, one may think that it's really good judging from the brand REVLON alone, but it didn't do much difference from the performance of the Marionaud foundation brush. In fact, I think I prefer the Marionnaud foundation brush than this. I like the performance of the Marionnaud bristles better than Revlon's. There's something about how the bristles of this Revlon foundation picked up the liquid foundation while I was applying it on my muse.Also, I was also a little bit bothered with the way the strands part from one another. I think the Marionnaud bristles was able to hold it (liquid foundation) better.

I have a strange love affair with make up brushes. Apy's friend helped us/me get this from US last summer. I fell in love with it especially the eye shadow brush kit, which you don't normally see  in the Philippines.

Product Review: Charm and Marionnaud Make Up Brushes

For quite sometime now, I've been collecting Make up brushes and brush set for years now. And I have an embarrassing make up brush confession. I seem to lug around these brushes with me whenever I go. I have yet to meet another person who has an "emergency make up kit" in the office like me.  I can still remember what my friend and colleague, Eisen, said, when I told him about the kit: 

It seems like the word "emergency" doesn't go with "make up kit" in one sentence. 

Haha! But seriously, I think I fell in love with Make up brushes first before the Make up Artistry itself. Maybe it reminds me a lot of my childhood that I used to paint. And before I know it, I've been collecting make up brushes now and I even like to mix and match brushes from their sets.

To jump start my year 2013, I signed up for Suesh Make Up workshop before 2012 ended.

Review: Maybelline Mineral Powder Foundation + Nichido's Kabuki Brush

I swore not to buy Maybelline's face powder product that I blogged about before, but I kept my word about buying the Pure Foundation Mineral Powder Foundation.

With just one sweep, I don't know how it can cover and conceal at the same time giving a really good finish. And it's long lasting too! I just didn't use the kabuki brush that it came with, because I bought  Nichido's surprisingly soft kabuki brush for only Php 238.00!

I prefer using powders in cans rather than those in compact because I get stressed about powder cracks in face powder compacts that I end up smashing the entire thing, turning it into loose powder because I hate waste.

This powder costs Php599.00 on the market, but I got mine for Php 479.00 because it was on sale. I am still looking out for a darker shade, because apparently, I always ask for the darkest foundation but it ends up a little lighter on my face unless I let it sink in for a few hours.

Oh, darn girl problems!
