Old [Nokia] Phones Memory Lane (now that Microsoft bought them)

Someone from the past told me that in the Philippines, people look at what phone do you use. I beg to disagree, until I found my self looking at people's phones. Maybe because I was influenced of what he said year ago, but also I know some people who are so into changing phones to Nokia touchscreen models even if they do not have phone credits/top ups/load to sustain it,just so that they have a good phone to show. Interesting isn't it? Or is it just us Pinoys?

I saw on the news last night that Nokia was bought by Microsoft for 7.2B. Through the years I've been an avid Nokia fan. It made me do a quick review of how many Nokia phones I've had, since now I am a Blackberry user and a huge fan of Blackberry Messaging and also because my mobile plan came with BBM service.

In high school, my first cellphone was a Nokia 5110. I remember it costs 6k during that time.
I don't know if by 4th year or first year college, I shifted to Nokia 3210. Who's so popular because of the hidden antenna.
One of my memorable Christmases was the time I was 17 or 18. Aprille and I woke up to 2 Nokia 3310s from my parents under our Christmas tree. I lost this phone because when I attended a debut, my classmate in college who I shared a table with, stole the Nokia 3310 from my handbag.
I bought a second hand mint-condition 6210 phone when I was in College. Buying and selling of phone is pretty normal since I live an hour away from Green hills shopping center (where the cellphone and gadget haven is,up to now). I love this phone because of its memory and other stuff like calendar, reminders, etc. Until, on my 19th birthday, it was stolen. Someone was carrying my bag and the bag got stolen with my phone, wallet, new make up and other stuff in it.
I don't remember the next phone that I had, I am pretty sure I used another one but I cannot remember. When I had my first salary and out of a decision of a badly broken heart, I bought my first ever camera phone. The Nokia 6600.

I had a great time with this one and even changed the covers (housing) and turned it into metallic yellow. Then on my first promotion, I bought a hot pink flip phone and my first time to try a different brand: Motorola.

I remember showing up mid week with a spanking brand new, flip phone. I loved it so much that I worn out the keys. I was the first (if not one of the first) in my then office to have this pink Motorola V3X phone. I was also able to try video calling with one of my friends using this phone.

On my second promotion, I remember my mentor/friend/ and BEST TEAM LEADER EVER, Martin, told me that when people get promoted they change phones. He told this to me as soon as he saw my new phone that I got after my promotion.

And this is the phone that I loved the most! I had a lot of great, great times with this phone but the wifi connection has not been as easy as I thought it would be. This was my phone for years until I transferred companies. I consider this my dream phone and will always have good words towards Sony Ericsson because of its performance and quality.

After years of use of my Sony Ericsson, it conked out. So when my mobile service provider offered a free phone for a plan, I was lured to try Samsung this time.

But it was a cheap phone and didn't quite performed according to my expectations. Well, at least it's a freebie.

When I resigned to pursue graduate school, my phones also had to retire. And during that time, I was no longer into phones. I bought a qwerty phone from Nokia. Originally I was rooting for the pink one, but then I thought, nobody in graduate school would take me seriously with this phone so I chose and off white one.

Then my Samsung slide phone died eventually and I still kept the Nokia C3. Until I changed numbers and my mobile phone plan came with a free Blackberry. Now I have two phones because 2 years ago, I gifted my mom with a touch screen, pink Samsung phone that she eventually got stressed using, so I ended up having it and using two phones (and two numbers).

Honestly, Im not much of an touchscreen phone fan because I like my keys. I bought a separate pink stylus that I use with my samsung phone because I tend to accidentally press other letters making me a bad texter.

My sister uses an iPhone5 and she loves it. I could have considered using an iPhone but then I do not want to have a phone that's so expensive that it'll break my heart if I lost it or someone stole it. I have a personal attachment to my favorite phones because that's what I use to really get into details with my friends.

Nokia have also released touchscreen phones but I was no longer lured to getting back to the brand. With Microsoft buying them now for 7.2 Billion, I wonder what changes will it do for Nokia and its market.
