Package for the Philippines #GLOBEProjectWonderful2014

With the recent events that happened in the country, like the Typhoon Haiyan (Yolanda), I couldn't imagine anyone not doing their part to at least give or share. My friends and I chipped in and donated last year and even donated clothes and those in kind but it seems like it isn't enough. We can do more, make it big, and go beyond just donation.
“If there is one thing you can give to the Philippines, what is that gift?”
I dream big and would like to give a customized gift to the Philippines called the "Empowerment Package".

The Empowerment Package is a series of program plans designed and customized for every individual in a target community for its long-term survival and sustainability. Every community is composed of basic, important unit: The Family. The package consists of specific programs designed for each family members and since the composition and dynamics of a Filipino family has evolved through the years, the assignments are definitely not gender-specific. Below is the list of the identified typical Filipino family member and the customized empowerment program for their role in the family:

The Family leader. The Family leader is usually the one who makes the decisions/breadwinner. As the leader of the house, he/she will be the main source or one of the sources of the family income. The family leader will be given resources, materials and will be trained for livelihood projects that can make way for future income. This include, but not limited to, house building constructions, restoration, training for public service administration, production of native products, business management training, and other employment training programs, etc.

The Home maker. The Home maker is  the one in charge of the household as the one who usually makes the decision in the house. The home makers will be given basic tools to start up. For example, for the house makers, they will be given kitchen appliances, and other tools to help the family. They will also undergo seminars and training which very much useful for families like budgeting, making use of available resources, first aid, and other activities to complement the Family leaders' program.

The Contributor/Believer - The Contributors are usually family members that may have graduated from school or have reached that age where they can now help out their families. The Believers are usually our grand parent/s whose wisdom have guided the family. Family members that fall under this category may have the option to join the Homemakers and Family Leader so that the roles, responsibilities and contribution of a member does not fall on one shoulder alone. The contributor/believer's role is to keep the ball rolling.

The Learner -The Learners are the youth who would like start or continue their education beyond the limitations of the physical walls of a classroom. Telecom giant, Globe Telecoms, did a great job with Bangon Pinoy movement and recently with Globe's projectwonderful where they made early Christmas happen for the children in Leyte. Globe can set up virtual classrooms with facilities and internet connections for free to be used for communication with relatives in other parts of the country or abroad, and establish distance learning programs in cooperation with Globe's project wonderful volunteers.

The Wonderer - The wonderers are infants to children in pre-school (those who are too young to go to formal schooling yet). They will be assigned together in a make shift day care center or pre-school (built by project wonderful volunteers and donors)to undergo counseling or debriefing by volunteers and participate in enjoyable learning activities for them to make the most of their childhood. They also get to mingle with other children their age, while their parents/relatives are at the same time involved in their respective programs in the Empowerment Package.

Recognizing the important roles and efforts of volunteers and donors, all the resources gathered would be categorized according to need and would be distributed according to the program for the members of the family. For example, donated money may be used to buy materials for house building projects, restoration and other materials. Donations in kind like clothes, food, medical kits, among the many others would be carefully segregated and distributed by Globe Project wonderful volunteers and would be endorsed to the Homemakers and the Believers. The books and toys would both be enjoyed by the Learners and the Wonderers.

It is called the Empowerment package because every family is a "package" to be empowered. Every member of the family is included in the rehabilitation project, everyone is involved from infants to senior citizens! Absolutely no one is left out!

The Empowerment Package is designed for long-term sustainability of each families in a community and at the same time provide support, boost self-esteem and confidence for each individual affected. The best thing about the Empowerment Package is it is not only it is implementable to those affected by Typhoon Haiyan (Yolanda), it is also applicable and may also be adopted by other communities in our country, including those who are residing in the city but happened to be living in depressed areas. In short it does not cater only to one affected area alone, it is implementable in the entire Philippines!

The Empowerment Package is by Filipinos, for every Filipino.

How about you? What would you like to give to the Philippines?  #GLOBEProjectWonderful2014

My heart is to is those children orphaned during the typhoon Yolanda and the family who took care of them. It would be a great if these children are found by their families or at least recognized so that they may be found or placed. Most of them were separated -strangers took pity of them, took them to take care of them.

Would it be great if a website on Globe's Project Wonderful have a sub-section of these orphaned children and have stories about them? Perhaps, a day of fun and adventure to find these kids in Tacloban or nearby provinces. The orphans are listed and located. Following with a blessing of those who fostered them. A big plus would be to provide the orphans scholarship grants and the foster family during the Typhoon would be recognized and rewarded as well for their generosity to share their life to a child.

A website to know the whereabouts of the kid, their story and how people can also help online through donation to support the foster family and the cause itself. :)

If there is one thing I would give to the Philippines, it
would be empowerment for voters so that they would base their choices not on
political patronage but on qualifications and track record, not on name recall
and popularity but on a solid program of government that addresses a whole
range of concerns including climate change adaptation and disaster risk
reduction, not on what their big-name endorsers say about them but on how they,
through their actions, have exhibited integrity,
servant leadership and competence.

SINCERITY, COMMITMENT and NEVER-ENDING PASSION. Sincerity to learn, serve, help, to do good and be good in anything and everything. Commitment to succeed...commitment to uplift one's own and others' spirits. Never ending passion to always strive the hardest to reach one's goal and to influence others with that never ending passion to always do better. All three should amount to PAYING IT FORWARD--what one type of kindness received by one Filipino will be forwarded to others that will keep us connected and united. What unites us are the experiences and the learnings from all of these. I want all these to be communicated and shared among each other--from one generation to the next. I imagine a Filipino people who are sincere, committed and passionate about life and all united towards one goal...making a better Philippines by bringing out the best amongst us.

One thing that I wish I can give to the Philippines is a free medium of communication for every Juan. Every Juan wants to be connected in anyway to another Juan. That's why we have at least one reunion, gathering, occasions, etc every year. Since we also have a trait that we are hardworking, some of us needs to work abroad or out of town, but Juan's are known for their Close Family Ties, we can never celebrate holidays, birthdays without any transactions to our closest relatives and friends.

Text messages, video calls, telephone calls, etc. We have to admit that we are worried about our friends and families everytime there a new typhoon that's coming. Juans are always here to lend a hand to their relatives - even strangers whenever it is needed. Juans are really creative, during the times we don't have any options, we always find that ingenious ways of solving our problems. It would be really helpful if someone would help me grant my advocacy for every Juan.

Foremost, I would like to express that I subscribe to the idea of the blogger: Keamistry. I’m buying the idea that what our country needs is something sustainable. Gone are the ideas about giving ‘bread’ that would simply last for a day. I am also not a fan of development projects that appear to be only ‘symptoms-curing’. For the Philippines to have a holistic progress, the projects must NOT be short-term, instead, they must be sustainable and enabling.

This leads me to my own idea of what one thing I would give to the Philippines. I would like to organize a community library that would encourage people of all age, gender, religion, or social status to read and learn.

Our conventional libraries have this sort of ‘exclusive bubble’ that prevents people to utilize it. How wonderful it would be if communities start to create their own
libraries that hold books, e-books, and other forms of IEC materials (information, education, communication materials). These community libraries is something people can call their own. This is also democratizing the knowledge learning.

With the right partners, people can donate, gather, and ask for sponsorship. Globe, with its influence and capacity can sponsor and provide the Information Communication Technology medium. Meanwhile, bloggers in the community can create different social campaigns to enliven the project.

The whole project is fitting especially now that we are shifting towards a ‘Global
society’ and ‘Knowledge society’.

If I would be given a chance to give a gift to the Philippines, I'd give every Filipino family a magic wand. But this is not just your typical magic wand that can conjure anything and everything that one wants. My idea of a magic wand has limits. It cannot produce material things. Instead, it can give you MEANS to get what you want.

For example, I want to be financially stable to support my family. With just one swish of my magic wand, I will be presented with several options to get what I want. It can be a job opening in a company that offers a competitive salary, a chance to join a contest with a huge prize money, or other stuff like that. It will not instantly give me money with just a flick but it will help me get to where I want to be. With this magic wand, every family will not depend on anyone except for themselves for survival. It is also sustainable because it gives long-term solutions to everyday problems.

Now, every Filipino will be in-charge of how they will run their lives and households. Its like having the Universe and the Law of Attraction in the palm of your hand but not in a God-like kind of way. This magic wand has one more special feature. It can detect the sincerity of your heart when you make a wish. It will not work if a wish is made out of greed, envy, anger, and other negative forces.

I'm aware that my magic wand is not completely fool-proof. But hey, every Filipino needs a little bit of magic, right?

If there’s one thing that I can give my dear country that
would be …. The gift of Health.

I want to do a medical mission with the help ofNuffnang Philippines and Globe thru #GLOBEProjectWonderful2014

Health is wealth. No amount of money, time and effort can
ever, ever, bring the best of your health back, once it’s gone.

In my 6 years of practice as a nurse, I have seen how our
healthcare system struggles to provide quality care for our countrymen, may it be in manpower, medicines, or equipments both in the
community and hospital.

I’ve seen people deteriorating day by day because they can’t
afford to go to a doctor. I’ve seen
patients die because their
families didn’t have enough money to buy basic medicines.

I am believing that we can do something about this. One of
those needy, ailing, indigent patients could be your mom, dad, granparent,
relative, dear friend, loved one…

In short, we are all CONNECTED, one way or another. So it is
not just a matter of “about them” and “about us” because it is
ABOUT US — ALL OF US.

The first time I heard this question from a friend made time for me to think of the gifts that I can give to them. Just like the author said, me too do not have money to help the people in the Philippines. Until I get to the point, I was stopped and saw things slowly moving when I saw someone gave their donuts to the beggars and street children sleeping along the streets. My heart was amazed and my mind started to think of every man. I will honestly say that I am a selfish person and do not know how to give something to someone without condition. But that time and until this day I believe all the Filipino out there have a loving heart and a helping hand to prove that we can act as one. Bad people are not always bad. People change, all are permanent except for change. To God be the glory. He made me realized the three gifts that I should give to the Filipino people without thinking of being a rich person or having full pockets. And those gifts are PRAYERS (for them to remember God all the time), a LOVING HEART (for them to feel that they were not alone) and a HELPING HAND (for them to become strong and build their life for this another chance)

Well, thanks to the author, KENNETH TAN for making this article so useful and inspiring. There are things that worth sharing and this has been explained and totally shared on this blog. Just pursue what your passion is because you have an idea to inspire every Filipino out there.

Hello Mr. Bautista. Thank you for dropping a line in my blog. I was just wondering, are you leaving the above comment in this blog or was it meant for another?

I got confused with your reference "thanks to the author, KENNETH TAN for making this article so useful and inspiring..." and I remember a certain Kenneth Tan leaving a comment but no further explanation and no reference link either.

If I had the ability to help the Philippines by giving gift I would give them a Advanced Military equipment - The military served as the protection of a country, it protects not only the higher-ups people but also the overall citizen of the country. To prevent annihilation of our people and country of the possible war that could occur we couldn't afford to be possibly defenseless and just let the invaders take advantage of us without putting much a fight. And its also help and served our people at time of crisis.

Comment on my blog too thanks! http://miaamorilag.blogspot.com/2014/01/globeprojectwonderful2014-contest.html

Tangible things will never be enough for the victims of yolanda/haiyan for it will not last long will all be temporary.

I agree with your "EMPOWERMENT package" and it goes with my gift of Strong conviction to empower each individuals and the right conditioning of the mind.

Nothing is impossible for a person who has great devotion to be successful in uplifting their lives.

I know this is not easy but with a person with "strong heart and devotion" nothing is impossible. For it is us, you and me, not just the Government, NGO's nor aids of other country will help ourselves.

Kea said...

If I can give something to the Philippines that is immaterial, that would be Discipline. If one person wakes up one morning and decided that "starting today, I will follow rules and the law, I will be a disciplined citizen." And religiously and conscientiously does this everyday for the rest of his life, and other people will see this change and because of this example others will follow suit. If this will be our mentality, don't you think our country would be a better place to live in? Where: - people don't throw their trash just anywhere, drivers follow their lanes, public utility
vehicles stops at points only where it is allowed to drop or pick up passengers, people cross where it s only allowed to cross the street, motorists follow the speed limit and are diligent, people know how to fall in line and don't cut in a line, we arrive in meetings or gatherings on time, we don't vandalize and other thousand more things that we can do to show discipline.

The tangible thing that I want to give to the Philippines is the gift of Education. I still strongly believe that education is the key for success; yes, there are those who make their lives and the lives of their loved ones easier and comfortable by making a living and succeeding in their fields even though they have not finished school. But that's one in a million. Having proper education will still give someone an edge to survive in this world. One can get a better paying job, thus, one will have greater chances of helping his/her family for a better life.

With that being said, to answer the question: "If there is one thing you can give to the Philippines, what is that gift?”, I would like #GLOBEProjectWonderful2014 help me by Adopting a Scholar or Donating to REAL LIFE FOUNDATION.

Real LIFE Foundation is a christian non-profit, NGO that was incorporated in 2007 with the vision of seeing thousands of marginalized Filipino youth educated, gainfully employed and uplifting their communities. The goal of Real LIFE Foundation is to transform lives, families & communities through hope and education. Real LIFE Foundation is one of the organizations that is in line with what I believe in. Like them, I strongly regard that education is the key to a better life.

The foundation does not only help its recipients by paying for their tuition, but they also help equip them in most, if not all, that they will need to finish college and what they'll be needing when they start looking for a job. They hold personality development coaching for the scholars and even tackles on how to dress and present their selves properly during job interviews and when they're already employed. Also, the students’ other miscellaneous expenses will be covered, like books, uniforms, OJT expenses and a daily meal & transportation allowance. Because of that the scholars don’t have to worry if they will be able to eat or get to school.

As I've said awhile back, Real LIFE Foundation does not only focuses on the financial side of putting a student in school but also comprehensively addresses the needs of their scholars that will help them thrive after finishing school. This is done through their LIFE Coaching, which is the character development program of the Real LIFE Foundation and which provides mentoring for their scholars in Leadership, Integrity, Faith, and Excellence.

My gift to the Philippines will be the gift of opportunity.
Opportunity for job, for education, for food, for shelter, for health services and all the other basic necessities each and every one of us will need. If there are enough opportunities for all us then equality can never be far enough to achieve. If those things will be provided crime rate, poverty, homeless, illiterate, and hunger could be all lessen. Peace in every people can be possible and we can all work hand in hand in making this country more efficient and successful.

Philippines has a lot of beautiful places for different adventures. Extreme activities requires the right facilities in order not to risk the life of both the tourists and the guides. Having the proper tools, Real's rafting adventure will now be put in everyone's to-do list. Rafting in Real is not yet so popular, it still needs a lot of promotions as well as improvements. First thing I noticed, the rafts are improvised, they are not the real one used for whitewater rafting. They use big black "salbabida" (life buoy), combine around 3 to 4 pieces to form a raft that can load 3 passengers plus the 2 guides. They also tie pieces of wood to serve as the seats. The ride along the river is so risky especially when the water pushes so fast where you can slip from your seat and fall out of the raft. Second, there are no paddles. The guides use their hands and feet to control the direction of the raft. One guide sits in front, he kicks on rocks to turn the raft left or right. If the force of the water is too strong, he might loose control and break his leg. The other guide stays at the back, he pushes the raft to help it move with the water. So if I have a chance to wish one thing for the Philippines, I want to give a complete rafting equipment to Real. Let us do our part to make our place a wonderful Philippines.

Like you, I would like to empower the Filipinos.
Poverty has stricken the country for so long, and robbed Filipinos of so many things that we can all have.

That's why I'd like to give the Philippines the gift of HOPE through entrepreneurship.

That's why if you give the Pinoys the opportunity again to earn for himself, for his family, he/she will get his/her confidence back, provide for the family and become a better citizen.

Hope gives life to the living soul of a Filipino.

Though I have an extensive explanation of my gift on my own post for #GLOBEProjectWonderful2014, here's another gift I would give to my countrymen if can:

Helping hands. A million helping hands.

After Yolanda, I realized that a LOT of people are willing to help. It was my first time to volunteer and repack donations and it was amazingly heartwarming to see strangers talking to each other, hand in hand and helping each other with only one goal for the day. And I want that again, not only during calamities but every single day.

There are still people out there who needs help, RIGHT NOW. Just look at the street children and displaced people everyday.

Here's the plan inside my head: An organization where people of ALL ages -- from grandparents to high schoolers, can join and browse for "projects" online, much like browsing for available jobs, where they can volunteer/donate. This organization can build a lot of projects for different kind of things!

Example:

San Andres Area: Soup Kitchen -- 2/3/14 @ 7pm.

Needed: 5 volunteers to cook, 5 volunteers to distribute, 10 Males for crowd control.

Materials: 4 tables, Bring your own cooking utensils and casserole.

Poblacion area: Basket Ball Court Rebuilding -- 3/15/14 @ 3pm.

Needed: 10 Males for rebuilding bleachers, 10 volunteers to repaint

Materials: 3 Red paints, Nails, Bring your own hammers

Boni area: Basic Tutoring Class -- 4/20/14 @ 8am - 6pm

Needed: 20 volunteers to teach, 10 volunteers to make food.

Materials. Teachers must bring 5 recycled papers and pencils each. Food makers must bring 10 eggs and bread.

NOW, let me ask you, if this website were real. Wouldn't you click that JOIN button?

A million helping hands. Think about it. :)

A great leader is my gift for my entire country, a leader who has good gifts and substantial qualities that are innate. For the millions of Filipinos in need of good leaders and hungry of good governance, a Gift of Leadership is primarily what our country needs the soonest. As we enter this newyear, we need to face the future with the gifts of faith, hope, strength, enlightenment, healing, wisdom, and forgiveness. And for that, having a leader armored with a great gift of leadership will gear our country towards a better life, a better future, and a better Philippines. #GlobeProjectWonderful2014 may aid us to provide organizations that will train and prepare to equip our young generation of today with knowledge and skills about nationalism and leadership. Globe’s wonderful projects in a joint collaboration with the Department of Education may lead to the realization of my dream. If children cannot go to school, let us bring school to children. More mobile classrooms (academic and trade) and more and mobile libraries are needed to facilitate accessible education that will surely help in honing more leaders and innovators. I also wish that my gift be turned into reality, but my question is how? How could I gift my country a leader with great qualities? Well, I could never ever be able to do that. But as a public school teacher, I could train and teach our young people to be one. Remember, "Teachers can make and unmake a child." So I thought of one way to help my wish be realized. With the aid of #GlobeProjectWonderful2014, We could distribute a lot of free books to different colleges and universities about effective leadership, good governance, team building, and other books on building a better nation for college students. We could organize groups in all secondary and tertiary schools that will be supervised by Globe people whose mission and vision focus on quality leadership and helping the ones in need. We could also make and distribute big story books about loving our country to preschoolers and primary pupils. With all these, the young Filipino generation will truly be inspired and understood what nationalism is all about.

My wish would also then be realized by training and leading our nation's future leaders. Hence, I would also love to be an instrument and a leader of #GlobeProjectWonderful in rebuilding schools. A school is an anchor to a strong community that shapes great national leaders. I already signed up at http://www.projectwonderful.ph/ because I want to be a part of Globe's wonderful projects to the Philippines in rebuilding schools where our next responsible frontrunners, innovators, and government leaders will be fashioned.

All of us have the brain to think logically but only few are open minded. This 2014 I also want to give the Philippines an eye that can see the value of small things for other people. Throw away your excuses and reasons to lift up your sense of helpfulness. You don’t lose when you give because you gain so much more like; happiness, fulfillment, love and friendship that no money can buy in this world.
