What to get if there's no curl defining mousse?

I've been asked time and again about mousse. One thing I've noticed, majority of the beauty stores, groceries, etc. have few curl-defining mousse, sometimes, none at all. You will always find hair spray or plain mousse, or a hair serum (that I don't know how it works for I can't even tell!).

I remember walking at SM department store and this lady asked if she can straighten my hair using the flat iron she's selling.Of course, since she doesn't know me and how much I'm loving my loose waves and permed hair, she must be thinking that I, like majority of all Filipinas, wanted to have long, straight hair. Who could blame her? The society, well majority of the society, thinks that the pretty ones have white skin and long, straight, mala-Pocahontas hair!

Q: So what to do if you can't get a curl defining mousse?

A: Get a Volumizing Mousse with Maximum Hold.

Exhibit A: Suave's Max Hold 8 vs. Suave Captivating Curls Whipped Cream Mousse.

Pretty interesting because this time, they are of the same brand, unlike other mousse face-offs that are of the different brand.

The typical me inspects everything from the way it looks, what the nozzle looks like, down to the convenience of dispensing the mousse on my hand

What I just don't like about Suave Captivating Curls, besides the nozzle, is it's messy to store.  Look at the remaining mousse at the bottom of the cap. I don't even know it got there. It might have "evaporated" and went into the ceiling of the cap.

There's this excess mousse staying at the tip of the nozzle.

The much awaited part:

Smell:

  • Suave's Max Hold 8 - Nothing special about it. I didn't even notice if there's any,
  • Suave Captivating Curls Whipped Cream Mousse - Smells nice. Not much of a "smell-conscious" person, but I was able to take notice the moment I dispensed the product to the palm of my hand.

Price Range:

  • Suave's Max Hold 8 - Php 275.00
  • Suave Captivating Curls Whipped Cream Mousse - Php 280.00

Availability:

  • Suave's Max Hold 8 - Available at beauty shops and grocery stores
  • Suave Captivating Curls Whipped Cream Mousse - not readily available everywhere. I got mine at SM Department store, a week later, it's no longer available.

Performance:

  • Suave's Max Hold 8 - Works really well with damp hair, because as the hair dries itself out, it turns into soft, defined curls.
  • Suave Captivating Curls Whipped Cream Mousse - When put on a damp hair (not towel dried), hair becomes stiff.

Will I purchase again?

  • Suave's Max Hold 8 - Sure, just in case there's no available curl defining mousse around the corner of the supermarket/shop.
  • Suave Captivating Curls Whipped Cream Mousse - I don't think so.

This is the first time I've tested a product that a regular hair mousse performed better than the curl-defining one, when it comes to holding curls.
