EdCom Unit: IRRI Riceworld Museum

Before the semester ends, my friend Paulie and I are supposed to present an Educational Communication Unit  for our DevCom 231 Class. An Educational Communication Unit, when explained in layman's term, is  a physical location where things arranged in a c way to certain way to provide guests education while inside the physical unit, and by Unit I mean room, floor and the likes. Examples of an "EdCom" Unit is a Museum and the Manila Ocean Park. Once your target audience decides to go inside the exhibit and roam around, they must learn something [new]. They must "take home" something learned , like what happened when I decided to take a tour in Manila Ocean Park with my relatives last year,I just took a few pictures of the fish that fascinated me so much that I just have to take my phone out and take a photo:

And I thought that "Butete" is baby tadpole. Lol!

Anyway, I've been hearing of the IRRI Riceworld museum as a good example of an Educational Communication Unit  for quite sometime now so when Paulie and I happened to find ourselves around IRRI vicinity,we decided to give it a go. So for my Devc231 Classmates in grad school who wants to have a  "framework" of what an EdCom looks like, this post is for you!

According to the the IRRI Riceworld  website:

The Riceworld Museum and Learning Center was conceived as a showcase for the vast knowledge relating to rice. Learn about the antiquity and fascinating history of rice, the science behind rice production, the many uses of the rice plant, and the cultures that center on this most important crop.

I like that it's interactive and combination of both old and new and it surely shows keepin' up with the times.

Monday to Friday

8:00 am to 5:00 p.m.
