When you get a @talk2globe TEXT SCAM from @suncelltweets user

My sister got scammed into sending a 50 pesos load off her post paid plan into a number, thinking she might received a price or something. Til now I can't believe she got scammed, maybe she was bored. Good thing, it was only 50 pesos. I have a screen shot of that message somewhere, I forgot to post it before.

With three mobile networks in the Philippines, Globe, Smart and Sun Cellular, I guess its pretty normal for people now to have two phones since Sun Cellular launched its unlimited calls and text years ago, and after partnering with SMART. It saves a lot, but I can't deal with having two phones or network at the same time. I have a sun cellular number that I never got around to using but sim is still activated.

But what I don't get is when you text scam from a Sun Cellular Mobile Network, pretending to be a Globe advisory:

Eh ano naman ngayon kung 500th Cellsite?

I was bored and was tempted to make a day of it, but then, it will only make me unproductive.

So warning to fellow Globe users, I know we get spammed a lot, (I even reported it), start ignoring those numbers and start blocking them (I did!). Once you block them, every time there will be another spam/advertisement text, you would see the message and IOS would only give you the option to dismiss to get rid of it out of your screen like this:

And you will no longer be able to retrieve that message once you hit dismiss.

If you're using an iPhone, you can check how to block numbers here, for Android users click here.

What you should know about being a [new] Globe [Postpaid line] subscriber

I've read about subscribers to Globe Telecom (my other mobile phone service provider) talk about how upon only getting their new postpaid line, they keep getting random texts from unknown numbers about the following:
  • Cash loan/advances
  • Condominium Unit Offers
Months ago while I was paying my bill, I spoke to the customer service representative and told him that how in the world did "these companies" were able to get a hold my new number?

He told me quite frankly that they do have some tie ups with some companies where they give out their data base info of postpaid subscribers to them for some kind of an exchange deal, and these companies will send a group message to all the numbers from the Globe Postpaid data base...and that I should just ignore the text whenever I get one.

And I did, but today, I get a random text not from a company but perhaps from a political party:

Dear Mayor Win Gatchalian of Valenzuela City, Isn't this too early for the 2013 political campaign? I'm not even from Valenzuela City?!
Last month of April, I accidentally texted an old number of a friend and to my surprise the number replied! When I told the previous owner of that prepaid mobile number, he was surprised that someone's been using his old sim card which he thought he destroyed. Therefore, I found out that one of my friends old number was recycled by globe.

If you're the same network as me, have you heard stories of the same/similar kind?
