[Project FeeTrail March 2015]: Firsts at Padre Pio's Shrine
Three firsts:
1. First time to attend Sunday mass at this church (where all church goers are 95% tourists).
2. First time to cover a wedding in this church.
3. First time to do make up of the sister of the groom.
I knew I wanted to see this church the first time my friend Aya instagrammed the photo of the cross. I couldn't help but stare, half-open mouthed while looking at the cross of this church. I like how the church is open air, salakot formed to keep in touch with Filipino culture, it also used local materials like bamboo, wood, etc.
March was very busy and humbling for me. I have a lot of stories but I'm too lazy to write as I go running from one project to another. Tiring but I am very, very, very grateful.
How about you?

The Princess and the Queen
Once upon a time, I worked for the Queen as her Girl Friday.
I watched her manage her kingdom, from getting to know each of her farmers and employees, to their families, up to their children. I watched how she does the troubleshooting and rehabilitation of her kingdom's challenges.
The Queen's Princess was always involved too. At such young age, she was involved in the livelihood activities of the kingdom compared to any adult my age.
There were times when the farmer's children's needs had to come first, leaving the Princess alone with the Queen's lady-in-waiting. I have never seen the Princess throw a tantrum, while the rest of children her age were all whining.
One event, we all sat in a long banquet for supper. I watched the Queen get the Princess' plate and helped herself with servings of food. I saw her hand over the plate to the Princess, before getting food for the others.
Which made me recall that many times we were together, I saw how the Princess comes first in littlest things. Like in a conversation, when the young Princess had to interrupt and ask a question, strongly driven by curiosity. I never saw the Queen throw an irritated glance nor a stern look, no matter how busy we are in the middle of a certain royal duty. The Queen pauses for a few minutes to address her concern. I also watch how she takes time to educate and inform the Princess no matter how absurd, how complicated, and how difficult things to explain to a child.
Which amazes me because the Princess grew up to be selfless, understanding, never was a spoiled brat and so mature for her age that sometimes it silently puts myself to shame. At such a young age, not even two digits years old, I have more hang ups than her, to think I am older.
"You must be so lucky to have such parents who taught you the parenting skills you have, "I told the Queen once. Casually. The Queen was very much secure with herself that she likes getting asked straightforwardly. "I mean look at the Princess, you did more than a great job."I added.
" I only learned that through my own experience of finding out the core of problems in our kingdom, mostly its about proper education and communication " she said. "And I have established that as the Princess'mother, her needs had to come first when it comes to me so that in the future, she will know that all these things that I do for our people, is something that is not to be jealous of. She will never have to compete with others, because when it comes it to me, she is confident that she always comes first."
And through the years, I understood and watched how the Princess grew up to be the people's champion.
Something about today made me recall this story.

Don't waste your @talk2GLOBE points! (or how I got a KFC Krusher for free)
"I called to claim my rebate of 10 cents!" said our American client who called on the phone. I used to work in the Business Process Outsourcing Industry that was one of the interesting calls I received.
"Maám, may I repeat. You called to claim your ten cents." I said, with emphasis on the ten cents.
"Yes" she said. She probably knows what I am trying to say. "Listen honey, imagine if one million Americans don't claim their 10 cents from your company, you do the math on how much money yáll get for free!"
Which reminded me of GLOBE points.
Honestly, I don't really care about GLOBE's reward points. It just accumulates and encourages me to redeem it but I do not know how and what to redeem. I thought, well, it's just a few points...until I realized that 1 point is equivalent to 1 peso and I have a virtual Php 170.00 waiting for me, ready for consumption:
You can actually buy using your points!
I tried first what else I can buy that I like using my GLOBE points, but a purchase at KFC is more realistic for me.
Don't waste your GLOBE points! Imagine if one million Globe subscribers won't redeem their 170 points/rewards... you all know what I'm saying. Now go and redeem it before March 31, 2015.

So I went to the counter, texted a number: BUY <space> store globe number <space> amount and sent it to 4438 and bought something I like from KFC.
I have one week and a half to decide the next order amounting to Php100.00 that I still have in my Globe Rewards.
Thank you GLOBE for my free KFC Krushers!

F*ck the 5 year plan
Would you believe that before my college graduation, I had plans A, B, C, and D?
Plan A was to be a creative writer for TV networks. Plan B was to start as editorial assistant in a magazine publishing company. Plan C was to go to school again and pursue 2 years of Information Technology course since I already have my Bachelor's degree anyway. Plan D was to apply in a call center - I had no idea what that is until over coffee one day, Chichi, my college roommate (who graduate a year ahead of me) told me that if you want to earn a big salary, fast, work in a call center. I was itching for independence that time so I said I will give call center industry a year then move on to my dream job.
I stayed for six years in the BPO (call center) industry, started in an entry level agent, assistant trainer, QA monitor, QA Lead and finally a Operations Supervisor/Team Lead before I hit quarter-life crisis at 26 and quit my job.
Five years ago, I remember literally dragging myself to work, just waiting for payday. I keep looking for what they call zest for life. I have a closet full of high heeled shoes, gadgets that I bought out of a whim, pricey dinners and cocktails with friends in my social calendar but that was it. My apartment was my little space of sanctuary, and on weekends I looked forward doing laundry, watching reruns of Friends and Sex and the City, go to church and cap the Sunday night with an alone time at a bookstore or a coffee shop. If I didn't have the energy, I would just call Jollibee delivery and pig out Php200 worth of junk food all by myself.
It's not like I did not try to go back to my dream. I did. In fact, I remember personally handing over my Resume at Summit Media when their office was still in Robinsons Galleria. My hands were shaking and Vic, my friend in BPO, was giving the ultimate shove to finally submit it. I did not hear from Summit. When my co-Supervisor, Jimi and I were make up shopping at an exclusive sale in a popular make up brand's head office, I realized I want to work there. Very timely that I saw a friend of mine who works there and referred me to their Human Resource Department.
When I did not hear from any of my applications, I figured out, okay I will give this BPO industry one last try until something better comes along. I got an interview with another company, they raved about my performance, honestly I also had great references and inside connections, but that was it. I came home to Laguna one summer weekend and got jealous by my friends laid back life and how they all seem to be okay with it. My parents suggested graduate school, but it was already too late to start the first semester.
It was in the middle of an absent-minded interview that I decided to go for Graduate School. The interviewer asked me to tell something about myself and all I was able to say was..." I'm Kea and currently I am a Operations Team Lead, I like reading books, hanging out with friends, going out of town, (and then realized I sounded like such a total blah, then added)...and this year I will start my Masteral Degree."
You know, they say, when you make a decision, the universe conspires to make it happen for you. Because exactly two weeks later, I was able to file my resignation and pursue my graduate studies at the start of the first semester. I thought, I would just finish my degree for two years and go back to the city armed with a new degree. Well, that was the plan and that was in 2010.
Borrowing from Karen's Salmansohn's words, "In five years, 5 years ago I never would have envisioned my life the way it is today.". In five years I have:
1. Moved back and lived with my folks and just when I thought I couldn't handle parental guidance again, it turned out to be nice.
2. Lost some long-time friends and understood why it happened for the best.
3. Lost my father, two years after moving back home. To this day, I think this is the ultimate reason why the universe had to uproot me from the city. I do not want to regret not having spent time with the last two years of my father's life.
4. Made new friends, like quality friends. Some people think they are too old to make new ones, but I got really lucky. I starts with the age old advice that if you want a good friend, you have to be good one. I got lucky to have reconnected and established friends from high school (apart from the circle that I kept all these years).
5. Earned my MS Degree after 3 years. I've also been a working student for 3 semesters.
6. Traveled to places I never really seriously planned visiting like Japan, for instance.
7. Worked for the government. I never planned on working for the government, but here I am.
8. Helped launch my sister's floral designing business and eventually got into the wedding industry (since I've been behind-the-wedding-scenes since 2011)
9. Finally found a job that I actually like. I used to think that I probably will never find a job that I like doing, but I got it, most of the time. And I am grateful. Ate Ting, one of my college roommate, told me that it is easy to find a job, but the hard part is finding the job that you love.
10. Made peace with my past and myself...and honestly I have a better, personal relationship with God.
And all of these are not really in my concrete plans. Sure, I do not have a house to show or a car to brag, but I have
"If you want to make God laugh, tell Him your plans..."
And when I feel anxious about the future (which is often), I am grateful to have found this on pinterest:

Kimberly Hotel, Tagaytay
I spent three days in Kimberly Hotel in Tagaytay for a business trip last month and although it was mostly work and very minimal play, I am thankful for a change of scenery.
We arrived in the afternoon but only started taking photos at night. This is what it looks like:
I enjoyed the first day of the breakfast buffet. The following morning, its just blah.
This way to the organic farm:

We arrived in the afternoon but only started taking photos at night. This is what it looks like:
This way to the organic farm:
Now for the room rates:
Superior (Single/Twin) – Php 5,500.00
Deluxe (Single/Twin) – Php 6,500.00
Premiere Suite (Single to Quadruple) – 7,700.00
Kimberly Suite Php 12,000.00
Extra person/bed – Php 1,200.00
Other add ons and my reviews:
Complimentary Wifi Internet access throughout the hotel
Very poor wifi, strong access only when you are in your individual rooms. When the hotel is fully packed, very poor signal in the conference area where you need to get out just to check something.
Rates are inclusive of breakfast
I experienced two breakfast buffets, and the first one is good, because...how can you go wrong with breakfast food. The rest of the food, (next day breakfast, lunch and dinner) were nothing special.
Daily housekeeping
They immediately clean your room which is good but there's something wrong with the "lock of the doors"that you need to slam it in order for it to lock. Housekeeping left our room open at one point because it did not really connect with keycard's lock.
Daily local newspaper
The newspaper you need to request and they offer one broadsheet only, and I think it's Manila Bulletin. (Not sure)
Massage services
They have services advertised in each room but I did not try one.
DVD Library
You can borrow DVD from the reception, you just need to leave a valid ID. Each room is equipped with a DVD player.
Safety deposit box
I only saw one in the Quadruple room where I stayed on my first night.
Business center services, gift shop, and hotel clinic
They sell plants from the organic farm that they have. You may request for details at the reception.
Check in time in 2:00, Check out time is at 12:00nn
If you still have a conference ending at 5pm and you need to check out, they offer a luggage area to store your luggage. But in our case we kept it with us in the conference room, better safe than sorry.
Other stuff:
Tour assistance
Laundry services
Kids 12 years old below stay for free with parents when
using extra bedding
